Constituency histories

Robert Brook

The House of Commons’ Library (now the Department for Information Services) has a project to record and collate constituency histories.

Library staff have been kind enough to allow us to publish some of these histories, in their existing .doc format, on the Hansard Prototype site. Only a few constituency histories have been published. You can see an example at the page for the Airdrie and Shotts constituency, when the history itself is linked from Airdrie and Shotts.

Some of the histories are complete, some are unfinished. We’re publishing them as an experiment: to see how search engines index the information and to see how – and if – people use them.

We welcome your comments.

EDIT: The constituency histories have subsequently been withdrawn at the request of the House of Commons’ Library as they would prefer that we did not publish information that is still being collated
